Peter George-one of the greatest!
« on: January 04, 2026, 06:16:42 PM »
What a great person just full of knowledge. He always spent lots of time with guests at his home and really instilled a huge passion in C.W.A. with everyone he met.
He will be missed and a great big void was formed with his passing.  So sorry to hear he has passed and I hope everyone here got a useful piece of knowledge from him that they can carry on with them in the hobby.

Peace be with you George.

Damn.  I just learned of this.  I am remembering his correspondence with me over the years.  He was always kind and patient with my shell inquiries and theories.  His unique knowledge and experience will be missed by the Forum.

I've known Pete for many decades.  I was at the Charleston Civil War Show when the news of his passing came to me from a friend in Virginia.  While not surprising as I knew his situation, it was still a bit of a shock.   It put a tremendous damper on an otherwise good show.  As I informed people who I was sure knew Pete, you could see their sad reaction.  Pete has been a fixture and resource for this hobby and especially among the artillery community for so very long.  In later years his health kept him from doing many shows but we were fortunate that until this past November he was able to make Mike's and my CVMAS show.  You could always see him in long conversations with someone and often holding a shell for inspection or instruction.  He was as passionate about artillery as could be.   And this year Mike and a number of friends and CVMAS club members manned a bunch of tables to sell for Pete and Connie his relics, books, etc. to help with his coming expenses.  It won't be the same without Pete.
Best,
Carl
