A Large Confederate bullet?
« on: January 03, 2012, 10:07:43 PM »
Hello all,

Forgive me for posting on your side of the fence as I normally stay on the “Dark Side” of the forum. (artillery) But I need a little help in preparation for a posting concerning an unusual confederate percussion fuse.  I’m looking for names & information on a few large Minnie ball type confederate bullets.  The more weight the better.   The bullet(s) would have a fairly large cup on the underside. Pictures or directions to such and weights would be a plus. Does anything come to mind?

Thanks,

Doug

Try browsing this:

http://www.baymediapro.com/collection/bullet_search.asp

Although there is a monster bullet called a Peck, it is rare and its usage hard to pin down.  Generally the largest CS conical bullets are .73-.75 caliber.  In that database, MM323 is a .72/73 caliber bullet.  Here is a .75 caliber one:

Anybody know what happened to the baymediapro.com website? That's where the Bullet DB was hosted.
It appears to be gone now and was such a great research site

Sadly, the person who built and maintained that website passed away earlier this year:

After Tom passed away, his family decided to take the site down.
