Trans Mississippi 3.3 inch Reads
« on: December 27, 2021, 03:38:51 PM »
Does anyone know of any 3.3 inch Reads found in West of the Mississippi River...Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri?  If so...general area or particular battle if known.  Photos if possible.  Thanks!

KerryG:  I moved this topic to the artillery area since it looks like you're looking for information on them and not necessarily to purchase them.   There are some great resources here that should be able to give you some solid information.
Best,
Carl

I have the disc sabot base of one blown off and recovered by Malcolm Allred at Vicksburg.  I sold one to Carl, and have two other complete ones.  One of them definitely came from Mississippi.  I got the other from Pete George in November who had in turn gotten it from Tom Dickey.  Pete may recall where it was found.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to photograph them but Ken has seen them.

Any recovered at Vicksburg would pre-date Marshall manufacture.

Just trying to document the begining of the Marshall 3.3 inch production and/or where those went.  There were a few of the Leeds 3.3 bronze guns that with to some of the artillery units in Arkansas and Missouri.  Thanks again.

Since I'm unfamiliar with the "Marshall Arsenal" projectiles, and as far as I can see in the photo, there are no bourrelets...so was this the only style or were there others out of that arsenal?  Sabots all copper, or any sabot differences, or particular fuse types known? Thanks again guys!

Kerry:  The Houston Read I had at the show that is shown in a photo on the show thread is attributed to Marshall and has bourrelets
