ID Help for Shell Frag
« on: March 16, 2021, 04:38:22 PM »
Hi guys - I'm new here, as I was just looking to confirm id on frags I recently dug in SC, so I apologize if this is the wrong place or too basic of a question. I'm a long-time hunter and detector, but this is my first artillery find. Attaching a couple pics that I have on my phone but can take others when I'm back home (with proper scale reference etc.). I'm pretty sure it's a 6" shell and I first just assumed it was a Read, but because that's the only artillery type I'm familiar with lol.

Sorry for the pic/scale reference quality - can get something better if needed.

I am sorry, I cannot tell what type of shell it is from the photo's. Looks Confederate by the bourrelet.   Someone else will probably know.      David

Like Dave says the bourrelet sings Confederate.  The ruler indicates a size that would open it up to being a Read, Brooke or Mullane.  Brooke shells were plentiful in the SC area so that would be  my guess.
Best,
Carl
