Title: Memorial Day
Post by: ETEX on May 29, 2011, 03:21:54 PM
I want all forum members to have a wonderful three day weekend. I believe a large majority of workers will have a three day weekend for barbequing, beer drinking, and being with family and friends. I hope yall all enjoy but I ask one thing. Let us not forget why we have a Memorial Day and remember all that paid the ultimate price for this day of remembrance. I am very fortunate, both my grandfathers fought in WWI and came home, my father fought in WWII and came home, and I am a retired Navy Chief and am in one piece although a DAV so lets not forget those that did paid the ulitmate sacrifice going back to the Revolutionary and all Wars, Police Actions, and Covert Operations since.

Thanks gentlemen for your service.  I am glad this is NOT a day for us to honor the two of you specifically (any more than we do on all days)!

With its origins coming out of the Civil War, it is entirely appropriate that we set the record straight here as we take the time to honor those who died in service of our country.  God bless them.

In hopefully not to crass a juxtaposition, I see that the History Channel is using Memorial Day to kick off Civil War Week with some new Civil War themed shows.  Tonight's is on Gettysburg and tomorrow on Lee and Grant.  What with the Sesquicentennial underway, it is good to get some air time on the Civil War and hopefully bring it up a little in folks' minds as it has slipped a long way from the nation's conscience in the last 50 years.
