I had a good time in New Orleans. Thanks for the suggestions. Unsurprisingly, I ran out of time before I ran out of things to do.
Highlights of interest to this group:
I did visit the Confederate Memorial Hall the day after Mardi Gras. Their sign said they'd be closing early, but they didn't kick anyone out. I was blown away by the number of Pelicans I saw there (buttons and buckles)! I found the James shell in an out of the way corner.
I was able to visit Richard, of Cayenne Metal Detectors, in Mandeville, and had a good time talking to him about relics and detecting in that area.
The Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge had very few Civil War items, but they did have a submarine found in Lake Pontchartrain. I'd never heard of that, before.
