Mortar Crew
« on: December 23, 2013, 05:02:49 PM »
Nearly took a village in VA and then here to get this Ames 1863 dated 24pdr Coehorn mortar into my house, but here are 3/4ths of the lifting crew -- me, our buddy Ken, and my son, Teddy.  My brother-in-law was #4 but he is taking the picture.

I built the shelves under it over Thanksgiving.  I have a pad coming to replace the vintage towel.  Will get some better pictures then.

Mike named his cannon Billy Baroo:

That's why all the patina is gone.  :)

In all seriousness, very nice display.  Very neat acquisition.
Best,
Carl

Congratulations Mike.  Some powder, a primer and a shot off of your shelf  and your ready to go.  I'd have to send at least one down range.  :D

From a fellow hair follically challenged cohort to another, use some powder next time so the glare off your head doesn't wash out the photo as much!  :)

Seriously Mike, beautiful mortar for those shelves you showed me pictures of at the Franklin show! That makes an awesome display!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Great addition to your collection. I believe we discussed how much fun it was gonna be taking it down the basement stairs.

Yes, Teddy and I strategically positioned ourselves on the top end so Ken and Brian got all the weight.  They are both from Wisconsin so Packers fans and not very bright.   8)

God help us all when we have to take this stuff back up the stairs...
