Any forum members planning to be at Mansfield Saturday?
-
It was super seeing you and Bob there again this year.
Wayne Williams thought they had record traffic Saturday. It was a nice day for Central Ohio. Today threatened to be more typical weather, but was nice. Traffic was reduced today, but selling was brisk. Once I get a little bit more caught up, I'll try to post some of the items I acquired at the show.
Always a favorite one in my book. Emphasis on artillery helps a lot, of course!

Here are two of my finest pick-ups from the Mansfield Show. On the left is a 3.8-inch James canister base and on the right is a 12pdr James hotshot. The 3.8-inch hotshot in the middle I had already thankfully as these two new ones broke my bank as it is!
I did not even know there was a 12pdr hotshot base so that shows how knowledgeable I am about Civil War artillery projectiles. I knew there was a canister base because Carl found one and has lorded it over me ever since I have known him!

A few more that followed me home...
Half a groundburst 3.3" Archer shell from West Viriginia, reassembled
Nose of a Hotchkiss percussion shell with 2 piece fuse
Nose of a James with "West Point" style 2 piece percussion fuse

OUTSTANDING IRON !

Thanks brother Michael. Here are the last three that I acquired for my collection, a late model copper fused Read with the lathe mark above the tail to minimize chipping, a 30pdr Read and an experimental Read.
-
There was also a wood fused 9" ball with a big "D" stamp and two stars. That beast needs to be cleaned up a little to show its full glory.

Mike ...... Good to see you again at the show, two years in a row. That's a great partner you have there. My wife and I didn't stay for Sunday because since we were in the area wanted to visit my cousin in who is having health problems.
As for the show, I think it was one of the better ones especially for you artillery guys but was a little shy as far as bullets go. I did manage to pick up five from one of the dealers. Three of the better ones were a (1) Sharpshooter 54 cal MM 453 (2) French Dragoon rifle .689 cal MM 264 that has a smaller size triangle in the base and (3) CSA Morse 55 cal MM 67.
Personnel photos: Mike, Mike & Bob
Bullet photo: left to right, Sharpshooter, French Dragoon, Morse.
Note: I attached photos but when I do a preview, the photos do not show. Is this normal? This my first attachment process so I hope it works OK.
