Title: Bennett Place -- Site of the largest surrender of the Civil War
Post by: emike123 on October 29, 2012, 03:17:16 PM
This past Saturday, I went back to my alma mater for Parents' Weekend.  My son Teddy is a Freshman now there (Duke).  One thing I never did while a student there is go the couple miles down the road to Bennett Place.  He and I swung by there between hearty meals and it was a worthwhile detour.  He had fun and even admitted to having learned a few things -- there is an excellent movie there in the Visitor's Center.  I have found many of the movies at these places stink, but this one was very good, maybe because it is a State Park and not a National Park where history is all too often obfuscated.

While I was there a forum member called me and he did not know what Bennett Place was.  Here is more on the site:

I must say I've never been there but been in the area dozens of times.  I'll need to add it to my "go see" list.  Thanks for sharing.

The young man is getting big!
