Canister plate diameters
« on: May 16, 2011, 10:54:17 AM »
What diameter canister plates went to which guns?

I have what I think is for a 6-pdr and it measures ~3.44".   A friend who just stopped in the office helped muddy the waters because he had a plate measuring just under 4" that he thought was for a 6-pdr.  Can someone supply a quick tabulation for the common field guns and their diameters?

I think the 3.44" is the 6pdr size.  Bore diameter on a 6pdr is 3.67" and the canister tin wrapped around the plates so the plate had to have a smaller diameter to fit down the bore.  (I could use an extra 6pdr top plate by the way if you scrounge up any)

All that you seek is published here on page 280 and 281:

Dave Gotter is the leading guy I know on Canister.  Call me or PM me and I'll send you his eMail address if you have more questions he can answer.,
