Description:A period button made of hard rubber by the Novelty Button Company using Goodyear's patent to harden the rubber. These buttons were great for troops as they didn't corrode or rust or reflect light to an enemy. Buttons made like this were very common to the naval troops. This button face is plain and may or may not have been military used. The dark chocolate brown look makes it appear to have been dug but I don't know it was. The back is very clearly marked:
