Description:3.5-inch Hotchkiss bolts are rarity 9 projectiles per Dickey & George. I have owned a few of these fired by the 1st US Artillery from their Blakely rifles at Spanish Fort, but they and the one in D&G have slightly different nose and base profiles.

This one came out of a Midwestern museum so I don't know where it was recovered. The sabot on it is slightly out of round so tough to measure but the iron at its widest part is just under 3.4". 3.4-inch Hotchkiss bolts have a flat bottom, though so I conclude this is for a 3.5-inch gun.
