Description:If looking for an artillery round that saw good use in the war but doesn't weigh much, the 6 pounder solid shot is what you need. Mostly phased out by the union for the bigger 12 pounder gun, the south still used plenty for the cannons made before the war since it took time for the south to manufacture enough of the bigger guns.
This ball is in good shape and is a nice example. The iron has some ground action but nothing deep. As the 3rd image show, there is a faint mold seam on it. It is uncleaned but has a light protective coating on it. You can see the flat spot where the sprue was cut off. It may possibly be a pre-Civil War (i.e. Rev War or War of 1812) projectile.
Projectile is inert, uncleaned but coated.
