Description:Solid cannon ball from Port Hudson where the longest siege in American military history took place.
This ball is fresh out of the electrolysis tank and has only been coated with satin finish spray polyurethane to seal out future moisture. A faint mold seam has been revealed as well as casting impurity marks on the "pole" that would have been upward facing when the ball was cast. The impurities rose and the reminders are visible in one picture. The other views of the cannon ball show smooth metal for a nice display. All the metal is stable -- a good solid ball.
Federal cannon balls generally do not have these impurity caused pock marks, but the Confederacy struggled with low grade iron ore supplies.
