Is this a belt or strap clip?

(1/2) > >>

dave h:
Could this be a Civil War belt/strap clip or fastener of some sort?  It appears to be possibly brass and measures about 2 1/4" long by 2" wide.  The two discs attached are 7/8" in diameter and the "wire" is approximately 1/8" thick.  I dug this in an area where I have found several dropped bullets and a musket tool.  Please help me identify if you can.

pipedreamer65:
Can't really tell you, but the wire resembles the type used for knapsack hooks and various hangers.  It appears period.  Sorry I can't help more.

CarlS:
I've looked at it a couple times myself trying to remember where I might have seen one of those but just can't recall.

divedigger:
it looks like a stopper holder like I have found on some period bottles

joevann:
That's it Dive digger!  I knew I'd seen that before!  There was a cork between those discs way back when!  It's an attached  stopper lid from an early soda water bottle!  I found a complete unit on top of Crow's Nest behind the West Point campus.
