Good finds still happen
« on: April 03, 2011, 07:44:39 PM »
Extremely rare and seldom found anymore. These Trans Miss. minies lay hidden on the hill for 147 years until yesterday. The condition of them on a 1-10 scale would be close to  a 10 and it would be hard to ever improve on them. The one on the left still has traces of paper under the crimp. Good finds can still happen in the minie field.

Terry,
Is the center bullet a "Cosmopolitan Type II"?

Tom:  You hit it on the button. It is much nicer that the photo as I am not good at taking pictures. While a few of these were found in Northern Ark. , we also found these in Tom Greens camps from Mansfield to Chapmans Hill and Pleasant Hill to Crumps Hill. I have found around 15 of these behind our home in the last 12 years along with the T.G. 's .   Coonboy

Terry,
You still have the knack. Two Tom Green's and a Cosmo II, that is a lifetime worth of finds in one day. Keep up the great digging.

He's correct -- the pictures don't do them justice.  They are beauties.

Mike, you aren't kidding about being nicer than the pictures. Saw the bullets today and the one that is on the right in the picture is absolutely flawless. Terry had a great time today and thanks for everything.

Yes, Carolyn and I enjoyed visiting with you on the anniversary of the Battle of Pleasant Hill four miles away. You see what I meant when I said out in the middle of nowhere.   Terry

Terry,

I'd love to have you give me the tour also, visit your museum again & see your latest finds.  I'll give you a call & email you to set a time convenient for you.  Talk to you soon.

First time I've been able to post since my trip to Louisiana.  Here is a picture of Terry showing me the Pleasant Hill battlefield.  He gives a great tour and is very gracious with his time.

Thanks again, Terry.  Some Chesterton's Rust Transformer is on its way for your preservation project.

Kind regards,

Mike

Where are the monuments & park rangers?

Those bovines shown are the park rangers.  I'll let you decide whether they are superior to their human counterparts at other parks, but the bulls in there are intimidating.  This battlefield is on private land.  There are, however, monuments right behind where we are standing.

Terry can confirm or refute as we did not go there, but the old wooden building in the far distance is period and may be something of a monument.
