i.d. on fragment requested
« on: February 17, 2013, 08:12:42 PM »
Can anyone out there i.d. this shell fragment for me? It's from a field piece. The walls of the frag are 3/4'' thick. My first thought was a Hotchkiss, and it might be, but it just looks different from other Hotchkiss frags I've found. Because the walls of the frag are so thick, could it be a Hotchkiss "common shell"? Did they have such a thing?

That sharp edge makes me immediately think Hotchkiss too and yes they did have a common shell.

Any chance this could be a Schenkel fragment?
