"Repeating" shells
« on: October 03, 2012, 05:54:00 PM »
Here are two where I think the parts are superior to the whole!

I picked up the 9" Pevey shell frag on the left last weekend.

Here it is next to a 10" McIntyre I have shown before

To All Interested;
    Does anyone know how many of the McIntyre shells have been recovered?
See Below for a clear image.
Regards,
John

Mike,

That's an amazing set to have in your collection.  As DiveDigger said, very educational.  You almost couldn't cut them better to show how they worked.  I am amazed the 10-inch was able to remain intact as much as it did.  Wonderful relics.  Do you know the provenance on each of them?
Best,
Carl

I do not really know where these pieces were specifically recovered, but from their condition they look to have been recovered right after use.  The McIntyre came from the Frankford Arsenal museum collection when it was closed and the contents sold. Pevey shell frags are found in Petersburg and Savannah.

I think this is one of the most interesting "shells" I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing
