Not fewer, but recent additions have trended smaller...

The baby shells are cool and hard to find.  Very few collections I've seen have more than one sub-2.9-inch rifled shell.  And that cannon ball is really cool.  Those are some nice ones you have.  Here is something for you to work toward  ;D :

Thanks to Jack Melton for the as always fine picture.
Best,
Carl

Carl, nice batch of shells in the photo. I can now see a photo war of artillery shells being posted.

Nice shell Mike.

Thanks.  Those were Tom Dickey's and Jack took that photo of them in his relic room in the late '80's.   You can see the case mounted on the back wall on the right near the door in this image:

Some of them in the case are 2.9 inch and 3 inch but they are short and rare and thus made it into Tom's case.  They are really neat.  Tom had 5 small Whitworth shells in there but the two of the style similar to Mike's look like from this image to be shells (flat nose profile) and not a bolt as Mike has.  So Mike has one not in this case it seems.
Best,
Carl

Mine is a shell.  It is missing the fuse.

Now that is a impressive photo of all the shells, bolts, and whateverelse you folks call the big bullets. That is one fantastic relic room. Thanks for sharing Carl.

Wow!  Is that some sort of "war log" suspended over the table of shells?

Very cool shells Mike... Way to get everyone's hopes up, making us think you were about to sell off your collection at half its market value in order to clear some space!

Callicles:  Yes, that is a pretty well known war log that now belongs to a member of this forum.  I don't recall all that's embedded in the wood but maybe the owner will see this and reply if they so choose.  I do recall it didn't have any baby shells like Mike showed us.

Carl

Thanks CW,

I hope the owner of the war log will give us the details of what is lodged within it!

Hey folks,

I cut 3 or 4 cords of firewood a year to burn and I hate to tell ya that is not a war log that is a war tree. That is one fantastic chunk of wood and I would love to hear what is embedded in that monster.

I've been in Alaska for the last four months and did not see this post. The war log is mine along with most of Tom's other war logs. I think I counted 12 pieces in it but I think there are probably more. My collection is available to collectors to examine. Come count for yourself.

John,

If you mean the ball on the middle shelf towards the right under the war log it looks like a Bormann ball to me.

Carl

Carl,
No, I meant the center shell that Mike first posted.
an unusual adapter.
