Unusual Bullets from Shiloh
« on: July 17, 2023, 09:34:31 AM »
All of these examples measure in the 30 caliber range, except the one on the right which is .44.  Could anyone identify what they may be?  I believe the middle one may be a Pepperbox, based on a similar example on Nick?s site.  Any thoughts appreciated.  All are from the vicinity of Shiloh (Counce, TN)

My first impression is that they are post-war.

Aggiereb,
I agree.  But, I know there are some types I have never seen.  These don?t have the characteristics of modern muzzle loading weapons, but could be post war civilian.

The one on the left looks like a .45-70 round and the other two are probably shotgun slugs for hunting.  In any event, post war.

What shot guns do you use Mike?  They are .38 and .44.

BTW, all modern.

I defer to your superior knowledge of unjacketed pistol bullets seeing as you live so close to Harrisburg.  I will point out that a .410 shotgun (please note proper spelling of "shotgun") is .41 caliber, and even less with a full choke.
