Hey Guys,
I dug at least 25 of these balls in New England in a 1863 Conscript camp. They measure 65 caliber , without belt 64 caliber. I feel its not a mold line for its too pronounced and none have a sprue mark at all. Its not a case shot ball as no artillery at this site.
I thought Brunswick , but the belt seems smaller, swaged ball or maybe a ball for a early breechloader such as a Hall etc.
The fired one as you can see looks like it was squezzed down the bore as in a oversized ball in a breechloader. I hope someone out there has seen one before. I would appreciate some input.
