Strange gun used in the trans miss

I was discussing the battles of 1862-3 in southern Louisiana around bayou Teche with a noted author who has written extensively on the subject.  He has read a report about a "gun" that the Reb Cav (probably Green's TX cav) employed described as a "mountain gun" that was 1.25" caliber.  The range was said to be about 2-1/2 miles (which I think was a misprint).  It may have fired mini style projectiles.  My guess is that the description is not accurate, or of a foggy memory.  Anyone want to comment on this one??

I have been thinking folks would post a reply to this and they probably will if we are patient.  The CS "mountain gun" I am thinking of is 2.25in in diameter, not 1.25" but there were some oddballs like the Ellsworth cannon that had a smaller bore diameter.
