Zinc preservation
« on: April 22, 2016, 10:02:41 AM »
Looking to preserve an Armstrong proj with zinc studs.  Anyone have coating suggestions for the studs that would be clear and keep them from flaking?  Thanks for the help.

Somebody please correct me if I'm mistaken... I thought "Armstrong" (Elswick Ordnance) studded projectiles only had copperbrass studs -- not have zinc/white-metal studs.

Ozarkeod, you asked about what to coat zinc studs with. First, remove all concretion/corrosion from the zinc (but save the "patina"), then apply several coats of Polyurethane (satin-finish).

Pete, your response begs a follow up question. What is a good way to 'First, remove all concretion/corrosion from the zinc (but save the "patina")'? Especially the save the patina part.
