WNY Bormann Time Fuse;
« on: March 04, 2014, 10:26:01 AM »
To All Interested:
    This has probably been posted earlier but thought some of you might want to continue your study of the timeless Bormann Fuse. In Europe it was considered the best fuse of its time, in England it was scoffed at in favor of their Boxer wooden time fuse.  At any rate one can see for certain how long it hung around.  Please add your comments ane/or photos.
Regards,
John

John, looking at the smaller views of the fuze was the "US" actually stamped with a backward 'S'?

Yes it sure was.  My drawing was made from a real speciman. Near sighted engraver :)

For a picture of a Bormann fuse showing the backwards 'S', see:

      It's interesting to me that often on civil war items, you see mistakes made like the backward 's'.  You would think that after all the work making a reusable mold for the Bormann fuze, that someone inspecting it would have noticed the backward 's'.
      I remember one time seeing on a ACW cannon, there was some misprint stamped into it. I forget what now.  But you would think after all the work casting a cannon, the inspector who I gather stamped the cannon himself, would have enough smarts to stamp it correctly.
