Hi Wes,

Most of the Confederate cavalry on this side of the river faught as mounted infantry. They preferred cut-off shotguns, the short enfields and musketoons
but probably not because they were easier to load from the saddle just that they were easier to carry on a saddle.

If they had to fight as cavalry they preferred using revolvers and would carry several extra loaded cylanders. When they fired all the shots from one cylander it was faster to replace it with a loaded one than it was trying to reload a muzzle loader while in the saddle.

I've always wondered if the Tom Greens were supplied to Texas State Troops and paid for by the state rather than the C.S.A.
