dead cat offers up parrott !! Huh ??!!
« on: October 20, 2013, 08:36:39 AM »
you ever hear the saying, "you can't swing a dead cat without hitting xxxx [ fill in the item] " ??
A fella calls me a little while back, says his wife's old cat died, he was digging a hole in the back yard to bury it, and hit a 30 lb Parrott shell !!    Wanted to know if I could disarm it and clean it up for him......
Well of course, the relic hunter in me asked him if he put the cat in the hole yet. "Yes, he did". Why ?? he asked.
"Because sometimes you can find multiple shells in the same hole if it was an area 'cleaned up' by a farmer or whomever".   I mentioned about running my detector over the area....
Then I asked if the cat had a metal collar on it. He said something about his wife not appreciating any of this,  and we didn't get any further along than that.
He said he would bring me the shell, but never heard back from him.......  oh well

Sounds like this could be a classic story from here on out.

Perhaps the Parrott was a dead bird?

It's not the glue, it's the cleaner that will get you-either way it is a pretty good story(unless you are the cat).

All -

This thread has me seeing a vision of some weirdo iron monger wielding a dead cat like a divining rod - legs askew and tongue hanging out, etc.

God forbid such a person should actually find a projectile.

Good thing my cats are all "indoor" critters.

I'm going back to bed.  This is giving me a headache.

Like the commercial says "it's only weird if it doesn't work".
I wonder if it would work here in Ohio???????

I've heard said at Fort Fisher you cannot swing a dead cat without hitting a piece of ordnance, but I wasn't really sure about that until now.

actually swung the dead cat [ Tesoro Tejon detector ] yesterday about a mile north of Ft Fisher. Got lucky in the first 5 minutes and dug a 30 lb Parrott with the  brass sabot intact. Also a sabot from a 100 lb Parrott and a few frags.  A good day, for an artillery guy !!
