12 pounder common shell
« on: August 13, 2013, 10:49:47 PM »
I wanted to share this photo of the remains of a ground burst 12 pdr common shell I found 30 years ago in Port Gibson, MS. I finally got around to reconstructing the pieces and this is what I came up with.

I never found the other half or the fuze so I'm guessing it blew up and the rest of the shell blew down. Thanks for looking. The one thing I thought was neat was the thick walls of the shell.

The thick walls tell you it was a common shell and did not contain lead or iron balls (case).
Best,
Carl
