Title: Antietam Battlefield pics from last weekend
Post by: John M. Brooke on August 01, 2012, 09:05:43 PM
Some sights from the Antietam Battlefield last weekend. The groundhogs had been digging up the sunken road two feet
deep in places.

That is a super battlefield to visit because so much of it has not been lost to progress.  Nice pictures...thanks for sharing

Didn't burrowing groundhogs unearth the in situ bones of a soldier who died on the field a couple years back?  Somebody needs to train them to root out brass.

Mike, They had some pictures of the findings when the soldier was unearthed at the visitors center. Included in the findings
was an 1839 reg. belt plate with small piece of leather remaining. I did scan over the fresh pile of dirt from the groundhogs, didn't see any relics.
