Title: Strange Round

Good day all.  I was contacted about this strange round someone got at an auction.   It measures with a tape measure to be right at 3" in diameter.  As you can see the 3 flanges show it to be made for a Parrott rifle.  It appears to me to be made of or coated with a non-ferrous metal.  There is some white oxidation evident.   He said it is about 6" or so tall.  The nose is flat with an "O" stamped on it.  He was told it was a Britten shell.  I have my suspicions on it but wanted to see what y'all thought.  Anyone ever seen one of these?

I believe it was made for use by NSSA (North-South Skirmish Association) re-enactors for civil war artillery "competition" target shooting. I've seen a similar-looking solid lead 3-incher, and like the one in the photo Carl posted, it had been fired.

I would higlhy suspect you are right on the money!   Pete, it's good to see you here again!
