Incredible.  Thank you for posting.

My daughter and I went there several years ago -- they have tours that take you out and let you wander all over except in the old castle which is unstable.

There is a guy that lives about 15 miles from here who worked summers at Bannerman's in the early 1950's (he is a story all by himself).  He told son Parker and I that the concrete at the boat dock was poured using Springfield barrels as rebar.  Kinda brings a tear to a fellows eye!  The stories of that place........

I hunted there once in the mid 70's. Rifle barrels sticking out of the concrete everywhere. They also used ramrods and ramrod bayonets as rebar in the flag stones. We broke out a bunch of them. There was still a large pile of 1880's bayonet scabbards and frogs in one room.
The only good things I found of Civil War era were 14 12lb canisters and 7 3" Hodgkiss canisters with lead sabots.

Excellent!  Thanks for sharing.  I greatly regret that I never made it up there in the early days.
