Title: Displays
Post by: emike123 on April 03, 2020, 12:01:36 PM
Been trying to get caught up on my displays, and have made some progress.  Here is something I purchased after deaccessioning a few years back but finally was able to get properly presented.

Mike,       Is that the original drawing for the Lee acid vial torpedo fuze ??    I have an original, the only known one, according to Mike Kochan who wrote the book on torpedo's. hmmmmm…….

Yes, David.  Those are original drawings for that one and the Raines torpedo fuse and the pieces I had to go with them.  Sorry that I can't get better resolution here, but maybe I'll try a close up later.  I knew you had the outside (major) piece for the acid type.  I just have the 3 vials shown I got from the late Greg Craven.

Shelter in place has been a boon for our collections in one way -- it has forced us to work on our displays.  I have talked to several people who have used the time for that.

I re-did my bullet displays, many of my fuses, an old school relic board, and a few other things.  Problem is when you do one, the rest look junky so you cannot stop!

With the exception of my watercaps, Bormanns and sectioned fuses, most of my fuses were disgracefully displayed.  They were on a single shelf in stair-step fashion where you couldn't see them well, they were dusty and if you touched one, the rest fell like dominoes.  I broke down and got two wall display cases for them.

When Bill says "wire-to-wire" he is referring to this display which was the first one I started in on in March.  It required a lot of strong, narrow wire and even more patience.  I should've photographed it with the front open like I did with the fuses to eliminate the glare from the glass.
