Hello,

This was in a recently purchased collection that had ACW items in it as well as some post-ACW stuff.  It appears to be steel in spite of the green patches of patina.  There is flat and rounded areas on the shaft that appear were part of the construction.  There is also what appears to be a mold seam on the underside of the head but perhaps that is from a press used to stamp the "US" on the head.  I think it is likely modern but thought I'd ask for some input.  Are these sold at some tourist site like the USS Constitution or similar?  Any input much appreciated especially something like the news that it is a rare nail recovered only from the Monitor.   ;D
