I bought this battered Read bolt at the Dalton show a couple of years ago - it went from the digger to Jack Melton who flipped it to me. It is not in Pete's book, but the shell made in the same style is. This late War bolt with its crude bourrelets and chipping iron screams of the mad scramble by the Confederates to hold the Yankees at bay as they marched toward Atlanta. I suspect the chipping occurred when it was fired, and it probably landed nowhere near its target.

Thats neat Scott.  Is it a 3-inch or a 3.67-inch?  Here's a picture of a 3.67-inch one I too got from Jack at Dalton.  Its right beneath a 3-inch Mullane bolt I got at Marietta a couple years ago.

This is one of my favorites you've seen before Scott.  Triple fused McIntyre repeating shell burst open to reveal its complex core

Mine is a three inch, but size does not always matter.

Presumably you mean length, not girth.

Sigh, another rare one for me to put on my list.  The more I obtain, the more IO seem to not have.
