Could this be the pistol carbine or a MM-407 variant or something totally unrelated? It was found in Northwest Arkansas. It's 1.022L,.578D, Cavity depth .41 Any info would be great.

Mine I have had for years is from Port Hudson as well.
I have several that I dug in the Devils Elbow area at Port Hudson.

Thanks, AggieReb

This bullet had me stumped for awhile. Your right on with that item #1355 from Tennesseelead. Great knowledge being laid down on this forum!

Thanks Again!!

After looking at the photos and having only the diagram listed in RBTRF I believe the MM-407 has the high base as compared to the diagram shown as the pistol carbine in RBTRF. I have several bullets in the .577 range that have the low base ring that resembles the MM-435 and have identified them as a variant. My conclusion is the high base is the MM-407 and the low base is the pistol carbine. Ready, Aim, and Fire away with your thoughts and responses.

Mike, Mike, Wes & all others,
Here's a quick "cut & paste" of photos of a (1st pistol carbine bullet & also a (2nd Mason&McKee #407 Port Hudson musketoon bullet...whatever that is. If photos from TennesseeLead.com will help with a forum like this please feel free to "cut & paste" at will.
Good to see Mr. Ewing & Pierce commenting at the forum...& all others.

Wes, this was digging up an old post. I have been out of touch for awhile with the new hours and a lot of other things going on. Hope to have more time on the forum in the near future plus I will be getting a new PC in the next week or so. Haven't seen any of these for sale and hopefully some diggers will chime in.

The four or five 3-ringers I have in my collection is enough.  ;D

I have dug quite a few MM407 at one location at Port Hudson. The main unit there was Miles Louisiana Legion and a few Artillery pieces some of which were part of the Legion. Just about all the diggers I have talked to about MM407 say they found this bullet only at this location in Port Hudson.
