Concretion

(1/1)

emike123:
A while back I got this massive concretion recovered from a shipwreck.  Its been in storage since before my move.  The owner had passed away, but I have seen concretions like this full of Spencer bullets that came from the wreck called the Governor.  Now I understand people may think the Governor wreck was another name, but I don't recall what it is thought to be now.  Anyone know more on this?

The other side of this mass is loaded with intact Spencer cartridges.  Unfortunately, noone ever preserved this.  I just put the cannon ball and wood sabot fragments that had fallen off back in place with water soluble wood glue.  I'll probably put linseed oil on the sabot and may do something some day to the 6pdr Bormann fused spherical shell.

That is too cool!  It is Bullet and Shell!

Ive heard it referred to as the Suwannee.   A deceased friend of mine had a huge clump of Spencer cartridges nearly the size of a soccer ball in his display case.   It had some other man made debris stuck to it, maybe some type of fuzes.
