Sword Identification Assistance Requested
« on: February 09, 2013, 11:59:05 AM »
I had the opportunity to view a small but very interesting collection last week, and the owner pulled out this sword (n pun intended).  From his discription of how it was found, I am almost certain it was in a scabbard when discovered, but the finder did not realize that at the time.  The overall length of the sword is 28 1/2 inches, and the blade is 23 1/2 inches long.  The blade is 1 1/4 inches wide at the hilt.  And the blade is relatively straight, not curved like a cavalry sabre.  I ohly took a photo of the handle, but hoping someone (hint Mr. George) can help out on the identification.  Thanks!

Looks very similar to #321 here -- pre-ACW European sword:

Yes it does, and this explains why I couldn't find it in any of my reference books which focus on US makers.  Thanks Mike; I think you nailed it
