Wes,

Here is a similar one that I have. This one was found in the Shiloh Area I believe. I have sold most of them but I have two left. They measure approximately .547 x .986. All of the ones I have had have a very long nose and a nice rebated base that doesn't appear to be crimped by a metallic cartridge.

I wonder if these are that long remington style cartridge bullet.  I think I just sold my metallic cartridge of this bullet recently.  Hmmm.  A suggestion but I thought the cartridge itself was post-war.

Bill,

I thought about those when I got these but the Remington is the .44-40 caliber. The almost look identical but different calibers.

Wes,

There are .50 cartridges for the trapdoor and rolling block. Those are the .50/70 and the .50/40. It's the same bullet the people were calling the Bavarian Sharps which Stelma lists as number 02-087 with the dimple.

Wes,

It looks like a 56/52 Spencer bullet to me with a corroded base.

Here is a bullet that is similar but does not have as defined of a rebated base as yours Wes and Ians. This bullet also came from Corinth and measures dang close to yours Wes. It measures out at .535 x .965 x 438.

Wes, I have been working lot of hours and haven't had the time to post but you can count on me to throw my two cents in when I get the time. The grooves on the bullet I have seem to be slightly different but that could easily be due to numerous factors, ground action, old mould, variant, etc. I am hoping some of the folks in Arkansas will chime in because they are very familiar with a lot of the Corinth/Shiloh bullets. Tom, after seeing the photo I posted what is your take on that bullet. I am open to any ideas and thoughts on this bullet pattern.

To all on the posting,

The Remington carbine came about during the civil war but was an Indian war metallic cartridge. It was 46-caliber not 52-caliber see SCWB2 01-079.

The Spencer carbine bullet has several variations as to length and body style.
