Appears to have been made for a pre-war country rifle & the base was of a softer metal to conform to the barrel.  Glad Gene had an extra for Bill.   I managed to trade/buy 5 or six unusual extra bullets from Gene and the previously mentioned Calisher Terry cartridge.   He has been most generous with research & pictures of his collection.

He used to bring his collection display to Nashville.  It was very impressive, but I haven't seen it the last couple years since the show moved to Franklin.

Mike,

No clue at this point but mine does have light rifling on it as it is was pass through a false muzzle like I see with Pope style bullets sometimes.  No distortion as if it were fired.  Based on the rifling patter, it might better determine what fired it but I would need some CW gun experts to join the discussion.
