I picked up a shell this weekend in an auction and believe the Bormann Fuse is a Confederate one based on the time marks before the 1 and after the 5 as well as the large numbers and the high lip of the fuse. Could someone who knows more than me about this confirm this or burst my bubble. Thanks.

Replying to your request for confirmation (or denial)... that is definitely a Confederate-made version of Bormann fuze.

just to add to the discussion, and Pete can correct me if necessary, but the U.S. also made a 'high lip' Bormann fuze, so we can't always go by the high lip as being Confederate. Am I correct Pete ??

Thanks Pete and Dave for your replies. :) :) :) They are both most appreciated.

You're welcome, John. It's what I'm here to do.
Dave, I do not recall seeing a US-made Bormann fuze with a "high lip." But I've seen a few (just a very-very few)l CS-made ones which do not have the "high lip" (which some folks more descriptively call a "non-threaded lip").
So, the absence of a high-lip/non-threaded-lip is not quite a 100% accurate indicator that a Bormann fuze is US-made.
Still, this is the right place to ask, has anybody seen a US-made Bormann fuze which has the high-lip/non-threaded-lip? Mike? Carl?
Regards,
Pete

Very nice.

I believe Emike has stated that the Federals made a high lip. Maybe he can chime in.

The shell itself is decent too.

It is nice. I’ve always liked 6-lber Bormanns for some reason. I’ve only dug one but it made my day. As to the fuse I don’t know about a high lip US version. I keep forgetting I look at mine as I know it was US fired.
