U. S. Schenkl Combination Fuze;
« on: July 11, 2011, 04:02:18 PM »
To All Interested;
     Few of my drawings posts have replies, so please, if you have comments, input or questionns please add to the post.
     A few years ago I received a copy of a pamplet on this fuze and shell and decided to make color plates that might clearly illustrate how this Combination fuze functions. Surely all the members have read how it functions but sometimes line drawings are not clear enough to show the various parts in detail.
     It is referred to as a 'combination' fuze; primarily a powder train time fuse it receives its impact feature when the fuse body collapses at impact allowing the center, adjustable  column to flash the main filler providing the time has not expired.
     The groove connecting the holes of the fuze body is filled with a mixture of spirits and fine grain powder to add to the initial spurt of flame that would be transferred to the single set time hole.
    Hopefully this illustrated parts breakdown (IPB) will clear up any mysteries of this little fellow's operation.
Best Regards,
John aka Bart

Jack and Mike,
   Thank you both for your kind comments.  There is so much to lean about ACW munitions.
Regards,
John aka Baert
