Title: ID this brass piece
Post by: dave h on March 30, 2014, 01:53:56 PM
Can anyone ID this piece of brass?  It is fairly thin brass plate about 2" width, 1 3/4" height, and has what appears to be a fleur de lis or similar marking.  Could this be a hat pin of some kind?

I'm thinking that it may be from some kind of furniture. It does look very old.

I agree with a decorative furniture piece mostly due to what appears to be attachment holes.   As Tom says, it appears quite old.

Thanks, I think you are correct.  It is similar to some of these:

I always wonder what a piece like this is doing in the middle of a farmer's hayfield!

Just about anything could turn up in a farmer's field. I occasionally hunt Indian artifacts in my in-law's fields and have seen a lot of broken glass, china, and assorted old trash. In this area it was common for farmers to take their junk and plow in into their fields up until the 1940s.
