I will take the Dahlgren! The Water Witch operated in the waters around my neck of the woods. It is only right she comes home.

Joevann,

Thanks.  You just blew a hole in my morning that lasted about an hour and 15 minutes.

What a remarkable group of offerings!  As an honorary member of the current crew of the Savannah River Squadron - CSS Water Witch, the Dahlgren howitzer was a real surprise.  After 50+ years of firearms appreciation it is not as easy to impress me once it was, but I'm blown away!

Thanks.

Fortunately I have not just one but two children (& a dog) so can buy more*  Accordingly, I see no reason to make hard choices between the Dahlgren or the mortar as they both will go nicely in the North where they belong.  Unfortunately, I have a good friend who is a serious cannon collector and when he sees the Dahlgren he's going to go nuts.  Although he is registered here, he is a lurker so maybe he won't see this thread  8)

* My kids occasionally look at this forum and if they see that I was just kidding, but since the dog cannot read...

PPS:  Dan (who folks should understand lives near Pittsburgh), if you want to bring home a Fort Pitt tube, I know where a nice one can be purchased for not too much money, at least on a relative basis.

The Water Witch boat howitzer would go nicely right here since I am a member of the Water Witch re-enactment group out of Columbus, Ga. Oh, did I mention that I am the Gunner of the group. lol.
That is an awesome collection of unique items for auction. Would love to just browse thru there.

What do you think of the Rare 3″ Parrott Rifle (Not Standard 2.9″). Is that ACW?

Yes.  Model of 1863 3inch Parrott Rifles.  By June 1864 the 2.9 inch Parrott had been withdrawn form service.
