Mike,
Regarding the Whitworth nose ejecting Case shot Jack Wells has a disassembled one, there is one in my book, were they actually shot in battle in the ACW I have no proof. The same goes for the Woolwich System of two rows of three copper studs , I have no proof they were shot in the American Civil War. They evidently were here as Abbot illustrates them in his Plates. A lot of collectors and traded, bought or have brought them back from the UK.
What is odd is that the British didn't start using RML guns until around 1865 which would have been the Woolwich System.  Armstrong also manufactured the RML studded projectiles.  Perhaps he sold them early.  Studded and lead sabboted shells will usually have his EOC cast into the ogive.  I have probably added to your confusion.
Best Regards,
John

Mike,
David measured his Armstrong Metal Time Fuse E (later No 22) and it is also 9tpi at about 1.25 inches at the threads.

I think you are correct and the case shot you showed wasn't the type that made it over here.
