Help with a bullet id please...
« on: June 29, 2011, 07:41:10 PM »
I found this bullet a few days ago while water hunting. I was in an area where I was finding Civil War era bullets and others. At first glance, I thought this might be one (maybe a Sharps?) that had been tumbled in the rocks as it was found in a fast flowing water on bedrock. But I am not so sure and was hoping for another opinion. The diameter is .512 inches, length is .960 and the weight is .91 oz. Thanks for checking it out...

Looks good to me, like what we used to call Picket bullets, but now thanks to the Thomas brothers they are considered to be associated with Kentucky rifles.  This one is a little bit larger in diameter than most, but has the right profile for me.

Aqua, I suspect your first assumption is correct.  Looks to be a TT-115 Sharps that has been worn down from the sand and such.

Mike, do you mean Mississippi rifle?

Yeah, thats what I meant!

In McKee and Mason, this type of Sharps is MM185

Thanks for the help with this. I do believe you guys are right. I've found a few others that were tumbled, but I could usually clearly make out what they were. Thanks again!
