I don't necessarily list my bullets by calibers, but now I have an interest to do so since the gauge also indicated US, CS, Austrian, French, British, etc.

I'm not sure I understand...I don't know too many specific specimens where their origin can be determined by their caliber.

If you could post a picture of the gauge it would be a big help with a discussion.  Is it a strip with holes for various calibers in it?
Best,
Carl

Quick link to the eBay item:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/111220058839

Seems a bit too simplistic for identification but likely useful for quickly getting a decent caliber determination.

That is a clever and interesting guage.  But why not just carry a set of calipers?  As usual, my greatest concern is that the resulting identifications are based on a nearly 40-year-old reference which is by and large incorrect.  Do you really believe there is a .59 caliber bullet?

Ah, you bring up another good reason to save the $15.  How many perfectly round bullets have you seen?   ;D

Mike, I am looking forward to the reprint of the handbook to see if the gauge is added as an appendix in the book.
