All,

IMHO, someone at the VDHR needs to be fired.

Amazingly ridiculous.   If that early stuff it would only be wood fused (or solid shot?).  Are they that anxious to just blow things up?

Yes they are. Just like firefighters LOVE a good fire. Its a proven fact. The actually done a study many years ago and no I don't have the info for fact checking but they discovered high percentage of arsons were committed by firefighters. Particularly volunteer firefighters, for the THRILL.

No, no disrespect intended. I used to be a volunteer firefighter myself but with my job, court, family, collecting it just got to be too many irons in the fire.  :o LOL.

I know that, I grew up in a family of Police vs. Firefighters and there was absolutely no offense taken.

another article I read on this said they were rev war hand grenades, and when she was looking at one she "smelled" the black gunpowder. then they handled them like bottles of nitro. FFS they were underwater for 200 years with wood plugs

I volunteer at the Pea Ridge National Military Park whenever they need detectorists to help their archeologists locate or clear artifacts from an area. What baffles me is what happens to them after we are done.

The archeology dept at the University spends forever cleaning and cataloging them, then they stick them all in boxes in a warehouse where they will never be seen or put on display, because some snowflake might get upset by seeing something that might have actually killed someone.

The sad reality is that these were recovered back in 1989 and likely haven't been seen since, till this undereducated individual came along and thought they would save the day by calling someone even less informed.
