Belted Sharps MM-475/TT-116
« on: July 16, 2011, 01:31:54 PM »
My first day off in a couple of weeks and have time to look at bullets. I am throwing the Belted Sharps out for information and thoughts on the bullet. Mike I know you have one but I don't recall where the bullet was dug. Bill, I would think you probably have one in your collection too. This is one fairly close to the top of my wish list and anyone with any information on dig locations, thoughts, and information on the bullet would be welcomed.

That was one of the most expensive bullets I ever bought and Danny Spencer (instigator, not the seller) egging me on all the while got me to buy a couple more one of which was even more costly.  Thanks for reminding me of those painful memories...

I'll post a picture when I can.  I don't think I know where it was dug, but will look into it and let you know if I find out.

Alas - I do not have a belted sharps in the collection.  Mike bought them all and has them hoarded away in his cannon barrel as canister shot for a future confederate uprising.  I would like to acquire one but have not had the dedication to pound the shows and dealer sites to find one.  To be honest, while I would like to finish the set and fill holes, I am more into WWII material at this time I guess due to the lack of finding what I need.

Bill, you are probably right about Mike having and hoarding the sharps. I was hoping to hear from more on those that have them in their collection and where the few that have been found were dug. It is very easy to become discouraged when you are down to the last few items of a collection. I have my hopes on picking up a Morse, think I have one located and should be adding it to the collection within a month.

I saw that Nick Periut had a Morse and most of a Morse Cartridge on his website but they were marked sold.  I bet Mike beat us to that as well and has it stored in his cannon barrel for safe keeping.  I have a Morse so I am actually good on that bullet.  Good luck with your search and I hope you get it.

Bill, you are absolutely correct on your assumption on where Nick's Morse went. I am working with Nick on another and hope it pans out.

Here's a picture of the Belted Sharps.  Looks good next to my new Morse.

I guess I shouldn't tell Mike that we determined that the belted sharps was not a Civil War bullet and thus worthless.  So he paid too much for all them.  Now that is my unfounded rumor for July.

Bill, it may also be a large Bartholow without the sprue being cut or a base plug. Kind of like the MM-476/MM-418. We keep this up and Mike will just give the dang bullet away.

I show one of these many years ago & no one was for sure what it was. Is it still unknown? What are these worth? I dug mine around these parts in West Tennessee. I'll look up the real location if needed.

Thanks, Roger

Hey Roger:

Yours has a similar, but not exact profile to the one above.  What are its measurements?
