The Not So Lowly Bormann Time Fuse

On the redeye back from California this morning, I got to thinking about how challenging it is to display Bormann fuses. I half picked up the phone to Carl to ask him to have his display case making friend, craft an insert for me, but then I remembered an old set of Forstner bits I had lying around unused for nearly a decade. So I poured myself a cup of coffee and proceeded to cut this insert out of a piece of board shelving and put it in an extra display case I had:
For folks who want to see the different faces of the fuses up closer, you can follow this link as the picture is too large to post here neatly:

Now that is cool. Nice inventive way to display.

Very nice! I haven't used my forstner bits since removing the detonator from a SADM.

Neat Mike, I would like to see how you have your shells displayed, as well.
Other than in the truck of your car, that is.

Hey Mike how bout a rundown of the fuses in the case when you get a chance? I assume they're all different but I can't tell exactly how on some of them. Thanks..

Top row (l to r):
1. Single slotted US one. Some people believe the double slot is a later innovation for the Union ones to
reinforce the slotted area from distorting when turned with the wrench.
2. Nice crisp double slotted US one I recently salvaged from a shell
3. Backwards US. Same exact one shown in Jones’ fuse book on page 23, top right
4. Double slotted US one. Exact one shown in Jones’ book on bottom of page 23
Middle Row (l to r):
1. CS. Same eact one shown in Jones’ book on page 26
2. CS drilled out one like on page 27. I own the one on the bottom of that page but it won’t fit here.
3. Another CS one
4. Another drilled out CS one
Bottom row (l to r)
1. 10 second one
2. US with single slot. This actual fuse is on the cover of Jones’ book and also on page 22
3. Marked “A” in the wedge for Allegheny Arsenal. This one is in the book too on page 23
4. This US one has the arrow pointing in the unscrew direction. Its in the book on page 24
