Title: SHALER Bullets
Post by: aggiereb on December 09, 2022, 05:18:06 PM
There are three basic patterns of Shaler bullets.  There are also three basic patterns of cavities for the base section.

Anyone know which base goes to what bullet???

Dean Thomas wrote an article on them a long time ago which showed which went with which.  I think it got re-purposed as a chapter in Roundball to Rimfire

Thanks.  I should have started there, but didn't even think about looking in the RBTR.  Dean had the exact information I was looking for.

Shaler?s are also known in .54 caliber.  I know Dan Poppen had one in his collection and I have one, both non-dug.

Ordnance returns list Shaler?s in .54, .58 & .69 but I don?t think that a specimen (complete or partial) of a .69 has ever been found.

I've heard of possible .54 caliber Shaler variants, although I've never seen even a picture of one.

The .69 caliber Shaler variant completely eludes me.  I've been collecting for decades and never heard of such.

Any chance you can let us know where that information is found?
