A 3.3" Confederate Dalhgren. Tom Had one from Port Hudson and my nephew found one at Selma. I don't have one or know how many there are around.

They must have used some sort of block and tackle to get that 20" Rodman into the gun?  :o

Whitworth solid bolt; I'm not into art, but those represent artwork to me!

Compliments to Lowcountry83 for starting this discussion.....has been a lot of fun to read. As simple as a round ball is and with money not being an issue, I'd have to choose the 20" solid also. If that was sitting in my living room floor.... ;), it would start more discussions (among non artillery folks) than any of the other exotic shells mentioned.

My holy grails have been realized for the most part. I try to be realistic and think what I really might find and what I like. The first was a 15" ball with 3 fuses, finally found 1 and the other was a 200 Parrott bolt that I saw in a book 30 years ago and just thought it was cool as all hell, got one of them. The other is an 8 inch Schenkle, I'm working on it. Confederate stuff is simple, whatever, as long as it's confederate made.

In case anyone was thinking of going by and grabbing one of the 1000 pound 20-inch cannon balls at Ft. Hamilton, they are welded together.   ;D

On a serious note, I hate to see them ruined like that.  they could use a coat of paint as well and you know since they are welded only the exposed surfaces ever get painted.
Best,
Carl

Glad I could stir up a bit of conversation. It's fun to see what everyone is chasing.. from the rarest of the rare to the heaviest of heavies. I have a pic of a nice 8 in. Schenkl they had at the Charleston Museum. I'll try to get it posted soon. It was one of the few noteworthy projectiles they had during my visit.
